After reading Give and Take by Adam Grant, Dave Applegate, the founder, was inspired to give back to my community. He spent a year volunteering at School on Wheels, a local organization that provides tutoring services to homeless children in Southern California. Though it was a great experience and he loved the mission of the organization, he felt his skill sets in product development, design, and lean entrepreneurship could be utilized in another area to create a bigger impact, though he was unsure of exactly where that would take me.
Around that time, he read an article about how Crossy Roads made $10 million from optional in-game ads in just the first 90 days. He realized that creating a charity-focused mobile game studio could be a new avenue for him to contribute to society while leveraging his skills and doing what he loves. It seemed that if people were watching $10 million worth of ads just for in-game currency, they would be more so motivated to play games and watch ads if they knew they were giving to good causes at the same time! He began to dive deep into indie game development and study how to successfully produce and market mobile games. After researching and testing my hypothesis, he created Rawr! For A Reason, a mobile game studio that promises to give 50% of all optional ad revenue to causes that our community supports.
